A brief, but heartfelt welcome for Les Arts Florissants' Les Boréades, filmed at the Opéra Garnier last year. I first came across this amazing score on a Frans Brüggen disc of orchestral excerpts and have been mad for it ever since. Written at the great age of 80, it is brimming with ideas and is arguably the most dazzling of all of his orchestrations. Christie's cast includes Barbara Bonney and Paul Agnew, both first-class. Robert Carsen's production is funny, sexy and visually bewitching. Best of all is the contribution of the dance group La La La Human Steps, whose movement complements Rameau's rhythmically unpredictable, brilliant dances. The set includes an hour-long documentary - a welcome bonus.
