The full-price version of The Jazz Album spent nearly 20 years in the catalogue until its deletion last year and subsequent budget reincarnation issued last month. It is easy to see why it has been so successful. The quality of musicianship from the many soloists is one reason alone. Particularly impressive is John Harle in Milhaud’s La Création du monde; his saxophone playing is some of the finest I have heard to date and Michael Collins who features in Stravinsky’s Ebony Concerto provides perfect contrast with Creamer & Layton’s After You’ve Gone in which the mood is captured impeccably by tenor Jeremy Taylor. If you are looking for 72 minutes of unbridled enjoyment at an unbeatable price then look no further!
